Best Credit Card Transfer Partners in India 2026
The ability to transfer credit card points to airline and hotel loyalty programs is what separates serious travel rewards from ordinary cashback. A Reward Point worth ₹0.25 in statement credit can become ₹2–4 in business class value when transferred to the right airline program and redeemed strategically.
In India, four transfer programs deserve your attention: Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, British Airways Avios, Air India Flying Returns, and Marriott Bonvoy. Here’s how to get maximum value from each.
Why Transfers Beat Direct Redemption
First, a quick framing. When you redeem credit card points directly (statement credit, gift vouchers, or portal travel bookings), you typically get ₹0.25–₹0.50 per point. This is the “face value” redemption.
When you transfer to an airline program and book a business or first class award, you can effectively get ₹1–4 per point — because the cash price of that seat is dramatically higher than the miles cost, and you’re using a fixed award chart rather than paying proportionally to the cash price.
Example: A Delhi–Singapore–London business class return fare might cost ₹3,50,000–₹5,00,000 in cash. The same seat via KrisFlyer Saver award costs approximately 100,000–115,000 miles. If you transferred 230,000 HDFC Reward Points (at 2:1) to KrisFlyer to get those miles, your effective redemption value is:
₹3,50,000 ÷ 230,000 RP = ₹1.52 per RP — versus ₹0.25 for statement credit.
That’s 6x the value from the same points balance.
Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Best for: Long-haul business class to Europe, Australia, North America via Singapore
Which cards transfer to KrisFlyer:
- HDFC Infinia Metal, Regalia Gold, Diners Club Black: 2 RP → 1 KrisFlyer Mile
- Axis Magnus, Atlas: 1 EDGE Mile → 1 KrisFlyer Mile
- Amex Membership Rewards: 2 MR → 1 KrisFlyer Mile (approximately — confirm current terms)
Key sweet spots (2026 award chart):
- Delhi/Mumbai → Singapore (Economy Saver): 17,500 miles one-way
- Delhi → Singapore → London (Business Saver return): ~100,000–115,000 miles
- Delhi → Singapore → Sydney (Business Saver return): ~95,000–105,000 miles
- Singapore → Tokyo/Hong Kong/Bangkok (Economy Saver): 12,500–17,500 miles
Why KrisFlyer is valuable from India: Singapore is the most natural connection point for travel from India to Europe, Oceania, and East Asia. Singapore Airlines consistently ranks among the world’s best business class products. Indian travellers can access KrisFlyer awards flying wholly on Singapore Airlines or on partner airlines (Star Alliance members including Air India on codeshares).
Axis advantage over HDFC: Axis Magnus/Atlas transfers to KrisFlyer at 1:1. HDFC transfers at 2:1. For KrisFlyer accumulation specifically, Axis is more efficient — you need half the card spend to generate the same miles.
British Airways Executive Club (Avios)
Best for: Short-haul redemptions, partner airline bookings, Heathrow connections
Which cards transfer to Avios:
- Axis Magnus, Atlas: 1 EDGE Mile → 1 Avios
- Amex Membership Rewards: varying ratio — confirm current terms
Key sweet spots:
- Short-haul on British Airways and partner carriers: Avios pricing is distance-based, making short routes especially efficient
- Mumbai/Delhi → London Heathrow (Business): typically 60,000–80,000 Avios one-way during off-peak, via direct route or connections
- Partner airline bookings (Qantas, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Finnair): Avios can be used across Oneworld member airlines
Why Avios is useful from India: British Airways operates direct flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Heathrow. If you can book a business class award on these routes using Avios, the value per point is excellent. Additionally, Avios pricing for intra-Europe travel makes it useful if you connect through London.
One limitation: BA fuel surcharges (YQ) on BA metal flights can be substantial when booking with Avios. Consider flying to London on a non-BA Oneworld partner (American Airlines codeshare, Finnair, etc.) to avoid surcharges.
Air India Flying Returns
Best for: Domestic Indian travel, Delhi–London direct route, Star Alliance connections
Which cards transfer to Flying Returns:
- HDFC Infinia Metal, Regalia Gold: 2 RP → 1 Flying Return Mile
- Axis Magnus, Atlas: 1 EDGE Mile → 1 Flying Return Mile
Key sweet spots:
- Delhi → Mumbai (Economy): approximately 8,000 miles one-way
- Delhi → Bangalore/Chennai/Kolkata (Economy): 7,000–10,000 miles one-way
- Delhi → London Heathrow (Business Class): approximately 35,000–55,000 miles one-way (confirm current chart post-Vistara merger)
The Vistara merger impact: Air India completed its merger with Vistara in 2024. Club Vistara (Vistara’s loyalty program) has been integrated into Air India Flying Returns. Existing Club Vistara points were converted at a set rate. Flying Returns now covers the combined Air India + former Vistara network.
Why Flying Returns matters from India: For domestic travel, Flying Returns offers some of the most straightforward redemption options available to Indian cardholders. Domestic award prices are low enough that even a 2:1 conversion from HDFC RP makes domestic flight redemptions viable for regular travellers.
Marriott Bonvoy
Best for: Hotel stays in India and globally, Marriott properties from Category 1–8
Which cards transfer:
- HDFC cards: 2.5 RP → 1 Bonvoy Point
- Axis EDGE Miles: 3 EDGE Miles → 1 Bonvoy Point
- Amex MR: 1 MR → 1 Bonvoy Point (historically — confirm current terms)
Key sweet spots in India:
- Category 1–2 properties (7,500–12,500 points/night): Fairfield by Marriott in tier-2 cities, some Courtyard locations
- Category 3–4 (17,500–25,000 points/night): Courtyard by Marriott in major cities, Westin in some markets
- Category 5–6 (35,000–50,000 points/night): JW Marriott Mumbai, Marriott Pune, some luxury properties
The Bonvoy airline transfer option: Bonvoy points can also be converted to airline miles at 3 Bonvoy → 1 airline mile (with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 transferred). This is a useful escape valve if your Bonvoy balance doesn’t match any hotel redemption, but the conversion rate is poor — don’t transfer specifically to get airline miles.
Amex has the best Bonvoy transfer ratio. At 1:1 (MR → Bonvoy), Amex is far more efficient than HDFC (2.5:1) or Axis (3:1). For Marriott stays, accumulating Amex MR and transferring to Bonvoy delivers 2.5–3x more Bonvoy points per card spend than HDFC or Axis.
Transfer Comparison Table
| Program | HDFC Rate | Axis EDGE Rate | Amex MR Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| KrisFlyer | 2 RP → 1 mile | 1 mile → 1 mile | ~2 MR → 1 mile |
| British Airways Avios | Not available | 1 mile → 1 Avios | Varies |
| Air India Flying Returns | 2 RP → 1 mile | 1 mile → 1 mile | Not available |
| Marriott Bonvoy | 2.5 RP → 1 point | 3 miles → 1 point | 1 MR → 1 point |
Which Program Should You Target?
For business class to Europe or Asia: KrisFlyer via Axis Magnus (most efficient earn + 1:1 transfer) For short-haul and London direct: Avios via Axis EDGE Miles For domestic Indian travel: Air India Flying Returns — any card that transfers For Indian hotel stays: Marriott Bonvoy via Amex MR (best transfer ratio) or direct Bonvoy earn
The smartest long-term strategy is to pick one airline program as your “home base” (usually KrisFlyer for Indian travellers given Singapore’s hub position) and accumulate miles across multiple card programs that transfer into it.
